Today I had lunch with a younger woman. She had a beautiful hard body. I stepped unsteadily out of my car in my heels. I then “sucked in my gut” so she wouldn’t think I was fat.

Sure, aging brings pain. It brings much comfort too. Society doesn’t expect you to look as good. You’re even allowed to get away with saying what you think…and they listen without offense…regarding your words as very wise.

Grow old with me.

Hairdos,
The precious clothes
You wear, thinking to please me.
In time, in looser clothing,
I will find you, just you,

I look in the mirror
And like what I see.
Gasp!
Good God, what’s happened to me?
All alluring models,
All sick-headed superstars,
Those with lucky genes,
Or skilled full-time surgeons,
All clicking cameras,
Popping flashes,
Red carpets,
White teeth that blind.
All spotlights on those
We deemed acceptable
On runway ramps
Bearing teenage vamps
Hard bodies
Slim fashion that did, in fact, kill.
All succeeded
Brick by brick, with criticism shrill
To build a castle [...]
